Congress has approved, and President Obama has signed, two pieces of legislation that create a new world for group healthcare and health insurance plans in the United States, including significant changes to Federal tax laws, ERISA, the Public Health Service Act, and the Fair Labor Standards Act. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and its companion bill, the Health Care and Education Affordability Reconciliation Act of 2010 (together the “Health Care Reform Act”), will directly impact virtually all Americans and American employers.
