Proving a Real Signature in a Surreal World: Notarization Concerns During a Pandemic

Wednesday, Sept. 16
The COVID-19 pandemic, which has limited the ability of individuals to leave their homes or meet in person with others, has brought significant attention to the logistics of execution and notarization of documents. States have attempted to address these issues by enacting new (and, in some cases, temporary) legislation or executive orders to provide relief, and the acronym RON (remote online notarization) is commonly used — and misused — to describe the relief provided. Private wealth services partner Andrea C. Chomakos and commercial litigation attorney Addison E. Fontein will help reduce current confusion by covering the various means by which documents can be executed and notarized electronically and/or remotely, including a review of state enacted legislation and executive orders.
