DRI Annual Meeting

Duke Lacrosse Rape Case

October 8, 2009

Chicago, IL

During the DRI annual meeting McGuireWoods' Los Angeles partner Sid Kanazawa (who has been reappointed as chair of the DRI Trial Tactics Committee for the coming year) moderated a panel discussing the Duke Lacrosse rape case. In the case, a prosecutor publicly championed the alleged rape of a black woman by three white members of a predominantly white Duke lacrosse team at a team party. The prosecutor was eventually disbarred for his conduct in the matter, and the university administration, faculty and many prominent news media were embarrassed by their responses to the incident.
