May 18, 2010

Partner Jay McElligott spoke on “Wellness Programs and Health Reform” at the 44th Annual Lawyers’ Conference of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association in New Orleans on May 14.

McElligott discussed the increased incentives employers may offer to encourage participation in wellness programs under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, as amended, as well as the new legislation’s emphasis on preventive services, screenings and immunization benefits. He explained the availability of small business wellness grants to encourage smaller employers to adopt wellness programs.

McElligott also discussed the wide range of grants now offered under the legislation to entities at the state and local level for programs promoting individual and community health.
