AmLaw Daily Declares Dupont v. Kolon Industries “Global Dispute of the Year”

September 24, 2015

Anticipating its 2015 Global Legal Awards, scheduled to be announced Sept. 28, The American Lawyer on Sept. 23 related the stories behind each of the winning entries. For the category of “Global Dispute of the Year: U.S. Litigation,” AmLaw described in dramatic detail McGuireWoods’ victory on behalf of client DuPont in DuPont v. Kolon Industries. Accused of stealing trade secrets related to DuPont’s Kevlar body armor, Kolon eventually admitted to the theft and was forced to pay $360 million in fines and restitution.

Subscribers can read AmLaw’s account of the case at www.americanlawyer.com. Note, too, that ALM awarded similar recognition to the case in July 2015 (see our press release). For more details on the case itself, see our announcement with links to additional media coverage.

It’s the second year in a row that McGuireWoods has had a role in a transaction recognized by ALM’s Global Legal Awards. Last year, the Smithfield acquisition was the Global Merger & Acquisition Deal of the Year: China Outbound. McGuireWoods was one of four firms involved in the sale – the largest buyout ever of an American company by a Chinese company.
