Washington Examiner Quotes Michael Drobac on Drone Pilot Program

December 19, 2017

Michael Drobac, a senior advisor in McGuireWoods Consulting’s Washington, D.C., office and head of its emerging technologies team, was quoted in a Nov. 28 Washington Examiner story about the Trump administration’s pilot program to integrate drones into the national airspace.

The initiative will allow local, state and tribal government to partner with the private sector to develop “innovation zones” in which drones can be tested in a variety of environments. Drobac, who serves as executive director of the Small UAV Coalition, told the Examiner he was pleasantly surprised the government gave the drone industry the green light to “dazzle them” with innovation, but is exercising caution.

“Technology always wins,” he said, “and we’re in a position where this is a program that began within the White House and was aggressively picked up by the Department of Transportation, and it’s a total vindication of the concept that technology always wins.”
