Benjamin Hatch Appears on CBS’ “48 Hours: NCIS” Coverage of Spy Case

June 2, 2017

Norfolk partner Benjamin Hatch made a brief appearance on the May 30 episode of the CBS News program “48 Hours: NCIS,” during a segment about a high-profile espionage case he prosecuted as an assistant U.S. attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia.

The episode included a step-by-step account of the investigation, arrest and conviction of a former U.S. Navy civil engineer sentenced to 132 months in prison for attempting to provide schematics of the Navy’s newest nuclear aircraft carrier, the USS Gerald R. Ford, to Egypt. It also featured interviews with agents from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) and the FBI, who conducted the undercover operation that led to the arrest.

Hatch, now a member of McGuireWoods’ Government Investigations and White Collar Litigation Department, is shown in the segment speaking at an awards ceremony honoring the agents who took part in the case.

“These agents who work in counterintelligence, much of their work is done deterring threats that the public may never know about,” Hatch said in his remarks.
