New Partners Richard Deutsch and John Henderson Featured in Law360

July 14, 2017

Law360 published two stories on July 10 covering the arrivals of new McGuireWoods partners Richard Deutsch in Houston and John Henderson in Dallas. Deutsch joins the firm’s Business & Securities Litigation Department while Henderson joins the Product & Consumer Litigation Department.

Deutsch brings to McGuireWoods nearly 14 years of experience representing clients in high-stakes international arbitrations, commercial litigation and government investigations. In the article, Deutsch noted the benefit of building his practice in Houston, a major hub for international arbitration, particularly in the energy industry. He said that McGuireWoods “is committed to expanding its international disputes group with Houston being the base for the U.S. side, which makes sense as more and more energy companies here continue to increase their international activity.”

The article, “McGuireWoods Adds International Arbitration Atty,” recounted a “standout” arbitration case of Deutsch’s. It involved three players in the energy industry and a rig offshore of Libya, just as the revolution hit, dispersing potential witnesses, making others inaccessible and delaying access to necessary files. When it comes to international arbitration, Deutsch advises aspiring lawyers to “be ready to step out of your comfort zone and to work harder than you ever have.”

In a separate article, Law360 detailed Henderson’s 40 years of experience in the law, litigating major cases involving automotive, pharmaceutical, medical device and chemical manufacturers. As national and regional trial and coordinating counsel, he prepared his own scientific experts for trial and cross-examined scientific witnesses.

The article, “McGuireWoods Adds Product Liability Litigator In Dallas,” highlighted Henderson’s work during the 1980s and early 1990s on a high-profile mass tort case involving health risks associated with silicone breast implants.
