Investment News Quotes Emily Gordy on FINRA Enforcement Head’s Departure

October 17, 2019

McGuireWoods partner Emily Gordy commented in a Sept. 19 Investment News article discussing the imminent departure of Susan Schroeder, executive vice president and head of enforcement at the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority.

Gordy, a former FINRA enforcement department senior vice president, lauded Schroeder’s leadership at FINRA “through its most fundamental change in decades.”

Gordy noted the significance of Schroeder’s February 2018 speech, which outlined guidelines for the agency’s enforcement actions and emphasized its focus on “customer restitution, self-reporting by firms and proactive corrective measures.”

“All of these factors are important in making a decision to bring a case and, if one is brought, what that case looks like,” Gordy said.
