Numerous media outlets recently reported on Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ appointment of McGuireWoods alum Carlos Muñiz to the Florida Supreme Court. Muñiz was a McGuireWoods partner and McGuireWoods Consulting senior vice president from 2013-2018. Last year he became general counsel of the U.S. Department of Education.
DeSantis announced Muñiz’s appointment during a Jan. 22 news conference. According to a Law360 article, DeSantis said, “The people who worked with him all say this is a guy who is brilliant yet humble, and that’s the type of intellectual firepower I want to see on the court.”
DeSantis added that Muñiz’s experience in various branches of government will be an asset on the court. “I think his perspective is going to be very valuable.”
