McGuireWoods Title IX Webinar Featured in Education Publications

August 3, 2020

An August 2020 article published in Student Affairs Today and Campus Legal Advisor highlights the McGuireWoods webinar “Final Title IX Regulations,” presented by firm partner R. Craig Wood, counsel Micah B. Schwartz, and associates Heidi E. Siegmund and Abigail A. Golden.

The article, titled “Review Process for Complying With New Title IX Regulations,” summarizes higher education and regulatory changes that will alter the way Title IX officials resolve complaints. The new rules are designed to limit the areas for which institutions are responsible, eliminate implicit bias through enhanced training of everyone involved in the Title IX process, and enable institutions to resolve all but the most serious cases.

Also new, the Title IX regulations “went through a formal rule-making process and can’t simply be rescinded by the next administration,” said Wood. “This is going to be the law for a long time. So the time you invest now in getting your processes, procedures, and policies in order will pay dividends for you for a considerable period of time.”

He added, “If equitable procedures for respondents are not met, as set out in these regulations, we’re going to continue to see litigation by respondents.”
