L.A. Biz Profiles “Women of Influence” Honoree Tanya Greene

October 26, 2021

L.A. Biz profiled McGuireWoods partner Tanya Greene in an Oct. 20, 2021, story on her “Women of Influence” award, an honor reserved for 10 women business leaders in the Los Angeles area for professional achievements, mentoring and commitment to their communities.

In an interview, Greene discussed her roles at McGuireWoods, her mentoring activities and the challenges and opportunities created by the ongoing pandemic.

“In the months prior to the pandemic-related shutdowns, I made it a point to travel to our various offices and introduce myself to my new partners and clients,” said Greene, who joined the firm in downtown Los Angeles six months before the shutdowns began. Although in-person interaction was “squeezed out” due to the pandemic, “other modes of communication thankfully opened up,” she added.

Greene said she mentors students through UCLA law student organizations, including the Black Law Student Association, as well as the university’s undergraduate mentoring program. In addition, she works with junior associates in the National Bar Association’s mentoring program, the Associate Advancement Academy for Excellence.

“I believe I can honestly say I have never turned down a request for mentorship, whether it comes through a formal mentoring program or more informally through happenstance interactions,” Greene said.
