National Media Cover Arrival of McGuireWoods Partner Holden Brooks

January 25, 2022

The National Law Journal, Law360, Bloomberg Law and Reuters were among the national legal publications covering the recent arrival of McGuireWoods partner Holden Brooks, who joined the firm’s Antitrust, Trade & Commercial Litigation Department in Chicago and Washington, D.C. She is the fifth lawyer to arrive at the firm in January 2022.

An accomplished litigator and strategic adviser, Brooks has represented healthcare providers in criminal and civil investigations by the U.S. Department of Justice Antitrust Division, the Federal Trade Commission and state attorneys general, and in merger challenges in federal, state and administrative courts. She focuses on mergers, complex litigation, criminal enforcement and counseling.

Brooks told The National Law Journal that she was inspired by the firm’s track record of hiring and retaining top female talent. She said she is excited to work with Christina Egan, managing partner of the firm’s Chicago office, and Amy Manning, chair of the firm’s Antitrust, Trade and Commercial Litigation Department.

“They have really amazing leaders of both genders, but they happen to have a lot of great women leaders. That’s really important to me and something I’m really excited to be part of,” Brooks said.

In an interview with Law360, Brooks said she anticipates the healthcare industry, her main niche in antitrust, to be especially “hot” in the next year as state and federal antitrust enforcers increasingly focus on that sector.

“I think healthcare transactions, hospital and physician practice mergers, are going to get more scrutiny than ever, and it’s not going to be business as usual in those merger reviews,” she said. “That’s really where I expect to spend a lot of time in the next year.”

Global Competition Review, Competition Policy International and Crain’s Chicago Business also covered Brooks’ arrival.
