Law360, Bloomberg Law, The Maryland Daily Record and The Bond Buyer were among the media outlets that covered the recent arrival of McGuireWoods partner Melissa Messina, who joined the firm’s nationally ranked public finance practice in Baltimore.
Messina joins McGuireWoods from financial services firm HJ Sims, where she was a senior investment banker before becoming executive vice president and associate general counsel. She worked closely with life plan communities, skilled nursing and assisted living communities, and other clients on financings, affiliations and transaction-related related legal issues.
Messina told Law360 that her new role will allow her to combine her previous private practice experience as partner at an Am Law 200 firm with the knowledge she gained spending more than five years at HJ Sims.
“McGuireWoods has a national public finance platform and a national presence on a corporate basis, so we all felt there were a lot of synergies in combining my experience on the transactional legal side with my experience advising those communities,” she said in Law360’s March 1, 2023, story.
Messina’s arrival also was noted in the March 2, 2023, edition of Reuters’ legal newsletter “The Daily Docket.”
