McGuireWoods LLP announced today that it has expanded its Energy and Environmental Department with the addition of Brian J. Kelly, who will serve as a partner in the firm’s Baltimore office.

Kelly’s practice includes global energy and infrastructure development, mergers and acquisitions, and project finance transactions. He has experience in structuring, negotiating and drafting power purchase, tolling and joint development agreements, engineering, procurement and construction contracts, fuel supply and transportation agreements, and related project development and finance documentation. At McGuireWoods, he will focus on representing clients seeking to purchase, invest in or develop power projects located within the United States and abroad.

“Brian’s diverse corporate practice will well serve our energy and environmental clients as they look to operate and expand their businesses amid an ever-evolving legal and regulatory environment,” said Joanne Katsantonis, co-chair of the firm’s Energy and Environmental Department. “We are delighted to have him on the team.”

Previously an associate in the Washington, D.C., office of Bracewell & Giuliani LLP, Kelly has represented independent power producers, project developers, electric and gas suppliers, financial institutions, private equity funds, life sciences companies, and other clients involved in complex financial transactions. He earned his J.D. from the University of Baltimore School of Law, cum laude, in 2001.
