McGuireWoods LLP today announced the addition of Robert F. Redmond and Clement D. Carter, who have joined the firm’s Toxic Tort and Environmental Litigation practice in Richmond as partner and counsel, respectively.

Redmond brings more than 25 years of trial experience, having served as national coordinating trial counsel in several mass tort, product liability and complex commercial and multidistrict litigations. He has served as regional counsel in asbestos, lead paint, toxic tort, medical device and pharmaceutical litigation in Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C. While Carter maintains a diverse litigation practice, he focuses much of his time on defending clients against various product liability and personal injury cases, including those involving asbestos, drugs and medical devices, mold and other toxic substances. He has prosecuted and defended companies in cases involving Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act, breach of contract, warranty actions and other commercial litigation. Carter earned his J.D. from Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary in 1982.

“We are thrilled to have Bob and Clem join our team,” said Stephen Busch, chairman of the firm’s Toxic Tort and Environmental Litigation practice. “Their collective experience in handling toxic tort litigation in Virginia and throughout the United States will bolster the service we provide to our clients nationwide.”

The firm’s Toxic Tort and Environmental Litigation team defends corporate clients in a broad range of industries who are named in personal injury and wrongful death cases arising from alleged exposure to various toxic substances. The firm has represented clients in cases brought by individual plaintiffs as well as in large common-issue consolidations involving tens of thousands of plaintiffs represented by many different firms, and regularly serves as national coordinating counsel and lead trial counsel in cases involving multiple jurisdictions and defendants.
