Cheryl Haas, Accomplished Securities Litigator, Joins McGuireWoods in Atlanta

New Partner is Latest Key Addition to Firm’s Growing Atlanta Office

Cheryl L. Haas, an accomplished securities litigator with significant experience handling complex disputes in the financial services sector, has joined the Atlanta office of McGuireWoods as a partner. Her addition further enhances the firm’s formidable commercial litigation capabilities in the Southeast’s dominant business hub.

Haas is the latest top-tier lawyer to join the Am Law 100 firm in the past two weeks. She is part of McGuireWoods’ commercial litigation team and will focus on securities enforcement and internal investigations as well as financial services and securities litigation matters.

Haas’s arrival at McGuireWoods from the Atlanta office of Sutherland Asbill & Brennan follows the firm’s hire of employment lawyer Peter Farley, also formerly of Sutherland, Asbill & Brennan, who joined McGuireWoods on Sept. 18.

Together, they provide immediate additional firepower for McGuireWoods’ national and international clients across a broad array of business services, including complex business and intellectual property litigation, debt finance, mergers and acquisitions, and labor and employment.

“We are excited by our continued growth here,” said Hil Jordan, managing partner of the firm’s Atlanta office. “Expansion of our Atlanta office is a priority for McGuireWoods and Cheryl Haas is an excellent addition.”

Haas represents companies and individuals in litigations and investigations relating to securities fraud, complex commercial disputes, insider trading, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act violations, privacy, variable product and mutual fund transactions, REITs, supervision, and obstruction of justice. Her background includes complex commercial litigation, defending investment companies and Fortune 500 companies in suits arising under federal and state securities laws. She also has litigated disputes arising out of commercial agreements.

“McGuireWoods is very pleased to have Cheryl join our strong commercial litigation team in Atlanta,” said Leonard J. Marsico, chairman of the firm’s Complex Commercial Litigation Department. “She is a remarkably talented first chair trial lawyer who can handle our clients’ most important cases anywhere in the country.”

“I’m thrilled to be expanding the bandwidth of the Atlanta office and to be joining a team of such extraordinary litigators in Atlanta and throughout the country,” Haas said.

Haas received her bachelor’s degree from Emory University in 1992 and her law degree from the New York University School of Law in 1995.

BTI Consulting Group lists McGuireWoods’ commercial litigation team on the honor roll in the 2014 edition of its BTI Litigation Outlook. Independent ratings publications such as Chambers USA and Chambers UK have listed the practice and individual lawyers among the top practitioners, and U.S. News-Best Lawyers in America 2014 includes nearly 40 of the firm’s commercial litigators, including nearly a half-dozen named as “Lawyers of the Year.”
