McGuireWoods’ International Trade Lawyers, Lex Mundi Firm Win Anti-Dumping Case for Client

February 2, 2015

McGuireWoods’ Brussels international trade team represented the Spanish Association of Ceramic Producers, ASCER, in an anti-dumping investigation by Pakistani authorities concerning imports of ceramic tiles from Spain. Vassilis Akritidis, head of the firm’s European international trade practice, and Yongqing Bao handled this together with RIAALAW, the Pakistani member law firm of Lex Mundi. Their combined team efforts led to the termination of the investigation without duties, on grounds of lack of injury to the Pakistani domestic industry. ASCER had instructed McGuireWoods both on dumping and injury, two distinct parameters of the investigation.

“It is pretty rare to win an anti-dumping investigation on grounds of lack of injury of the complainants,” Vassilis said.

“We have a truly delighted client in Spain and my compliments extend to Mazhar Bangash (now a WTO panelist for Pakistan) and his team at RIAALAW. We again demonstrated what we can achieve in foreign jurisdictions when we have a determined client and great teamwork.”
