Kate W. Hardey has joined McGuireWoods’ healthcare practice as a partner in the firm’s Tysons Corner, Virginia office, bringing substantial experience advising clients in all types of healthcare transactions, as well as regulatory and compliance matters.

Hardey comes to McGuireWoods from GE Capital, Healthcare Financial Services in Bethesda, Maryland, where she served as senior counsel. In that role, she advised senior management, financial risk teams and special clinical teams on regulatory risks in lending transactions involving providers in all facets of the healthcare industry. She also evaluated financial and compliance risks associated with federal and state investigations, False Claims Act litigation and U.S. Food and Drug Administration manufacturing compliance and product approvals.

Hardey previously was hospital counsel to two Washington D.C.– area hospitals in the MedStar Health System, managing all day-to-day legal needs and advising the board of directors on governance and compliance issues. She also has extensive private practice experience advising pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers on regulatory and compliance matters.

“Kate is a tremendous addition for our team,” said Amber McGraw Walsh, chair of McGuireWoods’ healthcare practice. “The depth and breadth of her experience, both as a lawyer and a healthcare administrator, will benefit the firm and our clients immensely.”

McGuireWoods is a leader in bringing together healthcare providers and investors. The firm hosts an annual healthcare-focused private equity, lending and finance conference in Chicago that draws lenders, investors, C-level executives and healthcare and life sciences executives together to explore strategies for closing transactions and achieving growth.

Gregory Riegle, managing partner of McGuireWoods’ Tysons Corner office, said clients also will benefit from Hardey’s vast healthcare experience in the Washington, D.C. metro area.

“Kate knows from first-hand experience the pressures healthcare clients are facing in a rapidly changing marketplace,” Riegle said. “We’re very fortunate to have someone with her impressive background on our team.”

Hardey earned her bachelor’s degree from George Mason University in 1991 and her master’s degree in healthcare management from Marymount University in 1999. She earned her law degree from The Catholic University of America in 2003.

“McGuireWoods’ healthcare practice is recognized as an industry leader and I’m proud to be joining a team with such a strong national profile,” Hardey said. “I’m excited to have the opportunity to grow my practice with such an outstanding group of lawyers.”
