February 8, 2017

Cynthia Guerin, who managed high-stakes and fiduciary litigation as an associate general counsel at Bank of America, has joined McGuireWoods’ nationally recognized Financial Services Litigation Practice as a partner in Dallas.

Guerin handled a range of high-profile and complex litigation during 27 years at Bank of America, including a major antitrust case involving credit card interchange fees that resulted in one of the largest antitrust settlements in history. She also managed multidistrict class action matters and patent litigation. At McGuireWoods, her practice will focus on financial services, complex commercial and fiduciary litigation.

“Our practice will benefit immensely from Cynthia’s extensive experience managing high-stakes litigation for one of the nation’s largest banks,” said Brad Kutrow, chair of the firm’s Financial Services Litigation Department.

“Cynthia has a client’s perspective on the legal and regulatory challenges facing financial institutions, and that insight will have enormous value for our clients,” said Noreen Kelly, chair of the firm’s Financial Institutions Industry Team. “We’re fortunate to have such an accomplished litigator on our team.”

“Cynthia strengthens our litigation capabilities in Dallas and the services we provide banking clients nationally, and we are delighted to welcome her,” said Akash Sethi, managing partner of the firm’s Dallas office.

Guerin, who earned her law degree from Southern Methodist University, was honored with Bank of America’s Enterprise Global Diversity and Inclusion Recognition Award in 2013 for her efforts to identify and retain minority counsel.

“I’ve had the privilege of working with members of McGuireWoods’ standout litigation team and I’m looking forward to contributing to the excellent service the firm provides to its financial services clients,” Guerin said.

McGuireWoods has been recognized repeatedly by respected, independent authorities for its litigation capabilities. It was named “Law Firm of the Year” for banking and finance litigation in the 2016 edition of U.S. News-Best Lawyers’ Best Law Firms. McGuireWoods also was recognized in Law360’s inaugural “Litigation Powerhouse” rankings for its work in a range of areas, including financial services.
