February 14, 2017

McGuireWoods partners Alex Brackett, Matthew Kane and Yves Melin won 2017 Client Choice Awards for client service in their practice areas based on feedback from senior corporate counsel. Only one U.S. lawyer per state and one European Union lawyer was selected in each practice area.

Brackett won in the White-Collar Crime Category for Virginia, Kane in the Litigation Category for California and Melin in the EU International Trade Category.

Presented by Lexology and the International Law Office, the Client Choice Awards recognize law firms and partners around the world known for adding value to clients’ businesses above and beyond other players in the market. Nominations are made by in-house counsel, who rate lawyers on criteria such as quality of legal advice, value for the money, commercial awareness, effective communication, billing transparency, tailored fee structures, response time and use of technology.

The Client Choice Awards recognized 403 winners across 66 jurisdictions worldwide, as well as 187 winners at the state and province level in the United States and Canada.

Brackett, based in Richmond, Virginia, is a member of the firm’s Government Investigations and White-Collar Litigation Practice and co-head of the Strategic Risk and Compliance Team. He advises corporate and individual clients in white-collar criminal defense and internal investigations, with a focus on anticorruption laws such as the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, export control laws and sanctions, and trade restrictions. Brackett’s client work has taken him to 21 countries on six continents.

Kane leads the firm’s Los Angeles Labor and Employment Practice. He represents businesses across industries in employment-related claims, wage-and-hour class actions and collective actions, misappropriation of trade secrets and noncompetition agreement claims, and labor-management relations issues, as well as in general commercial litigation.

Melin, based in Brussels, is an international trade, customs and EU regulatory lawyer with more than 15 years of experience representing companies in trade remedy proceedings. He co-leads the firm’s team supporting Green Lane, a network of European customs and trade law firms co-founded by McGuireWoods to provide clients with seamless service across EU member states. Legal 500 Europe and Chambers Global recognized Melin as a leading lawyer in international trade law in Europe.
