McGuireWoods ranked among the top 20 law firms for the number of global mid-market private equity deals closed for clients in 2017, according to Bloomberg’s Global M&A Mid-Market Review.

The firm ranked 20th in global private equity transactions valued up to $500 million, closing 61 deals, and 19th for deals valued up to $250 million with 59. McGuireWoods represented private equity funds and independent sponsors in these transactions, which spanned multiple industry sectors.

Notable deals include representing Source Capital LLC in its sale of Southern Dental Alliance to Pouschine Cook Capital Management LLC and a co-investor group; advising Sheridan Capital Partners in its majority recapitalization of Smile Doctors and its investment in the dermatology management company DOCS; advising Gauge Capital in its investment in the online education company eDynamic Learning; and representing Falfurrias Capital Partners in selling its ownership interest in Dorsey, Wright & Associates to Nasdaq.

“Our lawyers have done a tremendous job building strong relationships with our private equity and independent sponsor clients and we were grateful for the opportunity to assist them in closing these significant deals,” said Geoff Cockrell, chair of the firm’s private equity group.

McGuireWoods lawyers have deep experience representing clients in all types of private equity transactions, including leveraged buyouts, roll-ups, minority and junior capital investments, independent sponsor transactions and acquisitions of troubled companies.

The firm is a leader in bringing together investors and companies seeking financing. The firm’s many programs include an annual healthcare-focused private equity, lending and finance conference in Chicago that draws lenders, investors, C-level executives, and healthcare and life sciences executives to explore strategies for closing deals and achieving growth. This year’s conference is set for Feb. 21-22. The conference will include a breakfast event exclusively for women in private equity and finance to network and share deal leads. McGuireWoods also will host its second annual independent sponsor conference Oct. 2-3 in Dallas.
