McGuireWoods Continues Real Estate Finance Expansion With Addition of William Seligman

January 10, 2018

William C. Seligman has joined McGuireWoods’ global real estate practice as senior counsel in the firm’s Century City office, bringing more than 25 years of experience representing lenders and investors in all aspects of the commercial real estate process. His arrival continues the firm’s recent expansion of its real estate finance capabilities from coast to coast.

Seligman advises banks and institutional investors in debt investments secured by all major asset classes. His lending experience includes construction, bridge and permanent loans for syndicated bank facilities, insurance companies and other portfolio lenders and for securitization. Seligman also advises lenders and debt holders regarding distressed or underperforming loans, including foreclosures, workouts, loan sales and other exit strategies.

He is the latest lawyer to join McGuireWoods from Cassin & Cassin, following the recent additions of New York real estate finance partners Dennis Mensi, Alice Youngbar and Thomas Lansen, associates, Thomas Patalano, Alexander Hakopian and Scott Rader and Los Angeles associate Kathleen Barth.

“Bill has a stellar reputation for guiding bank and nonbank lenders through complicated transactions, and he will play an important role in expanding our real estate finance capabilities on the West Coast and nationally,” said John Grieb, chair of McGuireWoods’ Real Estate & Land Use Department.

“Bill adds an important dimension to our West Coast practice and complements the firm’s well-established strengths in the real estate, banking and finance ” sectors,” said Richard Grant, managing partner of McGuireWoods’ Century City office.

“McGuireWoods’ longstanding relationships with leading lending institutions and the firm’s depth and breadth of services make this a great fit for my practice,” Seligman said. “I am delighted to be reunited with my former colleagues and look forward to contributing to the firm’s continued success.”

McGuireWoods’ real estate group represents investors, developers, financial institutions and Fortune 100 companies in matters throughout the United States and abroad. Six of the firm’s U.S.-based real estate lawyers are ranked by Chambers USA in its 2017 guide, and the firm’s real estate practice is ranked in The Legal 500’s 2017 UK and Europe, Middle East and Africa guides.
