McGuireWoods has appointed Mary Nash Rusher as managing partner of the firm’s Raleigh, N.C., office. She assumes her duties Aug. 1.

Rusher succeeds partner Mark Anderson, who led the Raleigh office for 10 years. Under Anderson’s leadership, the office grew from seven lawyers in 2008 to 42 today in the thriving Research Triangle region.

Anderson, an acclaimed litigator who leads McGuireWoods’ national trial team, will continue representing clients in their most challenging matters in courts across the country. Throughout his nearly 30-year career, he has prepared hundreds of cases for trial and has served as lead appellate counsel in dozens of reported decisions. His work in high-profile matters across industries has earned him inductions into the American College of Trial Lawyers, the International Academy of Trial Lawyers and the American Board of Trial Advocates.

Rusher, a partner in McGuireWoods’ highly regarded public finance practice, has three decades of experience representing bond issuers, banks and underwriters in financing transactions for counties, cities, local school districts and colleges. She works on tax-exempt and tax-advantaged transactions, traditional government financings and innovative financing strategies.

“It’s an honor to guide our Raleigh office and I look forward to continuing to grow and provide excellent legal service, working with my fellow lawyers and our top-notch staff to serve this dynamic market,” Rusher said.

“Mary Nash is an outstanding lawyer and leader who will ensure our exceptional client service, locally and nationwide, continues,” said J. Tracy Walker IV, the firm’s managing partner. “During Mark’s decade of leadership, the office grew significantly and we are excited about the prospect of further growth in Raleigh, one of the most vibrant areas in the country.”

Among her numerous accolades, The Best Lawyers in America recognized Rusher as Raleigh’s 2018 “Lawyer of the Year” for banking and finance law. The honor is given annually to only one lawyer in each practice area per city. She is the past chair of the board of directors for YMCA of the Triangle Area and is a member and past chair of the North Carolina Bar Association’s Women in the Profession Committee.
