August 2, 2018

Lisa Williams has rejoined McGuireWoods’ public finance practice as a partner in Charlotte, bringing significant experience advising clients in governmental and private bond financings.

Williams returns to the firm after three years at Wells Fargo, where she was senior capital markets counsel supporting the bank’s public finance line of business. As an associate and partner in McGuireWoods’ Richmond office from 2003 to 2015, she represented local governments, state agencies and private entities in bond financings.

“Our clients know Lisa’s reputation for negotiating successful closings in complex financings,” said Kay McNab, chair of the firm’s public finance practice. “She will enhance the significant capabilities of our practice, and we are delighted to welcome her back to the firm.”

Williams served as bond counsel for prestigious public universities in financing campus building projects, facilities upgrades and equipment acquisitions, and has represented a state public school authority and more than a dozen local governments in major financing transactions. She also advised clients in bond financings for retirement living facilities, hospitals, private schools and colleges, and historical foundations.

“Lisa is an exceptional lawyer whose impressive range of experience strengthens our presence in the North Carolina public finance market and nationally,” said John McDonald, managing partner of the firm’s Charlotte office.

McGuireWoods’ public finance lawyers have pioneered innovative financing strategies on behalf of clients, including public-private partnerships; special revenue, tax and assessment pledges; and tax and revenue anticipation vehicles. The firm earned a nationwide Tier 1 ranking for public finance law in U.S. News-Best Lawyers’ “Best Law Firms,” and regularly places among the top law firms in The Bond Buyer’s annual ranking of leading bond counsel in the Southeast.

“McGuireWoods was home for 12 years and I am excited to rejoin the dedicated team of public finance lawyers in this nationally respected practice,” Williams said.
