McGuireWoods’ Courtney McCormick to Join Crowley Maritime Corp.

October 30, 2019

McGuireWoods Jacksonville associate Courtney McCormick will join Crowley Maritime Corp. as a senior counsel handling general corporate work and procurement. Her last day at McGuireWoods is Nov. 6.

“My experience at McGuireWoods has been invaluable to my career,” McCormick said. “During my time here, I worked on challenging, complex matters and was mentored by some of the best lawyers around.”

McCormick, who joined the firm’s Restructuring & Insolvency Department in September 2014, assists clients with legal issues that arise in reorganizations, liquidations, financial restructuring and adversary proceeding litigation. She represents secured and unsecured creditors in Chapter 7, 11 and 13 proceedings, as well as parties seeking to recover or defend against preferential and fraudulent transfers.

Prior to joining McGuireWoods, McCormick served for three years as the primary law clerk to Chief Judge Lewis M. Killian Jr. and Chief Judge Karen K. Specie of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Florida. Before that, she was a legislative intern for Rep. Thomas Grady of the Florida House of Representatives.

She has served on the board of the American Bankruptcy Bar Institute Alexander Paskay Seminar since 2015 and this year was named to the Florida network board of the International Women’s Restructuring and Insolvency Confederation. Thomson Reuters SuperLawyers repeatedly named McCormick one of its “Florida Rising Stars” in categories including Bankruptcy: Consumer; Bankruptcy: Business; Creditor Debtor Rights: Business; and Civil Litigation: Defense. Florida Trend magazine also named her to its list of the state’s “Legal Elite Up & Comers.”
