McGuireWoods partner Andrew McBride has been selected to receive a Law360 Distinguished Legal Writing Award presented by the Burton Awards, a national nonprofit program run in association with the Library of Congress. The Burton Award, the legal industry’s premier distinguished writing honor, is given to 25 partners and counsel from the 1,000 largest law firms in the United States.
A member of McGuireWoods’ nationally recognized Government Investigations & White Collar Litigation Department, McBride will receive the Burton Award for his 2019 Law 360 article titled “If High Court Hears Gun Case, It Could Gut Agency Deference.” In the article, he analyzed the legal battle over the government’s “bump stock” regulation and the implications for federal agencies’ enforcement authority.
McBride, a former Supreme Court law clerk and federal prosecutor, is an accomplished D.C. litigator who also represents clients in investigations and enforcement matters before the Department of Justice, Federal Trade Commission, Federal Election Commission and Federal Communications Commission, among other agencies. He has handled more than 50 appeals, including successful challenges to agency rules and enforcement decisions.
“I am deeply honored to be selected for one of the legal profession’s most prestigious writing awards,” McBride said. “It is all the more rewarding to be recognized for analyzing the potential implications of a major case in an area I enjoy, administrative law.”
McBride and other winners will be recognized at a June 8 awards ceremony at the Library of Congress. Law360 and the American Bar Association sponsor the awards program, now in its 21st year.
