McGuireWoods Among Leading Law Firms for Cybersecurity & Data Privacy in BTI Survey

April 2, 2020

McGuireWoods is rated as one of the 16 best cybersecurity and data privacy law firms in a new report from BTI Consulting Group, based on unprompted feedback from top legal decision makers at large corporations. The firm is among an elite group corporate counsel praised for helping clients identify and manage cybersecurity and data privacy risks and obligations, and develop plans for responding to threats.

According to the report, BTI Cybersecurity & Data Privacy 2020, corporate clients “face growing, complex, and unknown risk and need help from outside counsel.” The demand for cybersecurity and data privacy compliance is greatest in the banking, financial services and healthcare sectors, the report concluded.

“Clients want law firms who can pull all the pieces together,” the BTI report noted. “But even that’s not quite enough. They want outside counsel who know how to use the regulations, find the right government individuals at the right time, and know who else to call in. This is a tall order for all but the BTI CyberSavvy 16.”

The report is based on more than 250 in-depth telephone interviews conducted between Oct 1, 2019, and March 2, 2020, with top legal decision-makers at companies in 15 industry segments.

The report underscores the strength of McGuireWoods’ global data privacy and security industry team, which works with clients across industries to manage their privacy and cybersecurity compliance obligations; protect the integrity of their systems, networks and data; develop information governance programs to harness and manage their critical data assets; and navigate post-breach investigations and remediation requirements. Lawyers provide regular updates on privacy and security issues on the firm’s Password Protected blog.

“We have assembled a talented, cross-practice team to help clients manage risks and adapt to complex, rapidly changing laws and regulations affecting every sector of the economy,” said Andrew Konia, leader of the firm’s data privacy and security industry team. “It is rewarding when clients recognize us as a leader in this critical area.”
