McGuireWoods’ Matthew Kane Honored by The American Lawyer as a West Trailblazer

July 1, 2021

McGuireWoods partner Matthew Kane, a nationally recognized corporate employment lawyer, was named to The American Lawyer’s 2021 inaugural list of West Trailblazers. The honorees were profiled in a special publication on July 1.

Kane, based in the firm’s Century City, California, office, earned recognition for innovative strategies to defend major financial institutions, transportation and logistics companies, retailers, and food and beverage manufacturers in wage-and-hour class actions.

He represents businesses in employment-related claims, wage-and-hour class actions and collective actions, misappropriation of trade secrets and noncompetition agreement claims, and labor-management relations issues. He told The American Lawyer that he works to get cases dismissed or significantly narrowed at the outset, before significant client resources are expended on litigating the merits.

“I am sensitive to the time, cost and disruption a defendant incurs in litigation, so I always look for the shortest path to victory, however defined by the client,” Kane said in his Trailblazers profile.

“Clients turn to Matt because of his long track record of developing successful and cost-effective litigation strategies for businesses,” said Sabrina Beldner, chair of McGuireWoods’ Labor & Employment Department. “He is a pillar of our practice and we are delighted he has received this well-deserved honor.”

Kane was recognized by corporate counsel for client service excellence in BTI Consulting Group’s 2020 Client Service All-Stars report, by Lawdragon on its 500 Leading Corporate Employment Lawyers list, and by Chambers USA.
