McGuireWoods partners Timothy P. Callahan, J.D. Costa and Greg R. Kilpatrick are singled out by corporate counsel for client service excellence in the BTI M&A Client Service All-Stars report. BTI Consulting Group selected the honorees based on unprompted feedback from top legal decision makers at large companies in 15 industry sectors.

“This recognition affirms what clients already know about Tim, J.D. and Greg,” said Richard W. Viola, deputy managing partner of the firm’s corporate practice. “They are trusted advisers who understand their clients’ businesses and excel at delivering innovative solutions.”

Callahan is an accomplished project development and finance lawyer. Based in Chicago, he advises clients on the development, financing, acquisition and disposition of energy and other infrastructure projects, including wind and solar facilities. He has earned global and nationwide rankings as a leading lawyer from Chambers and Partners and received high praise from clients interviewed by BTI.

“Tim’s an absolute beast when it comes to wind and renewable energy acquisitions,” one client said. “He’s a true subject matter expert.”

Costa, a Charlotte partner, advises clients on complex business transactions, including mergers and acquisitions and private equity and venture capital investments. He represents private equity funds, independent sponsors, family offices and strategic acquirers in connection with leveraged buyouts, venture capital and growth equity investments, and other financing transactions.

“J.D. provides practical advice that prioritizes the most important things for the deal,” a client told BTI. “He is a great listener.”

Kilpatrick, also based in Charlotte, chairs the firm’s global Securities & Capital Markets Department. His corporate practice includes handling private equity, securities offerings, and mergers and acquisitions. He co-leads McGuireWoods’ Black Professionals in Private Equity & Finance Initiative, which brings together professionals from across the financial services sector to network, share ideas and promote change in the industry. Kilpatrick recently was named an MCCA Rainmaker by the Minority Corporate Counsel Association.

“Greg is very highly regarded and strong for M&A,” said one client. “He is capable of talking to business people directly.”

McGuireWoods consistently ranks among the leaders in U.S. and global M&A deals — including private equity transactions — in league tables published by Bloomberg and Refinitiv. The firm was recently rated a “powerhouse” for private company and straightforward M&A deals in a report published by BTI.
