McGuireWoods continues the strategic expansion of its nationally recognized Government Investigations & White Collar Litigation Department with the arrival of partner Jack White in the firm’s Tysons, Virginia, and Washington, D.C., offices.

White is an accomplished trial lawyer and legal strategist with extensive experience in civil litigation, regulatory enforcement and congressional investigations for clients in the defense, technology, federal contracting and other business sectors.

A graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, White served on active duty in the U.S. Army and continued his service in the Army Reserve while earning his J.D. at Pepperdine University School of Law. White served as a law clerk for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito after first clerking for Alito at the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. He is one of 11 former Supreme Court clerks in the firm’s litigation practices.

Practicing at the intersection of law and politics, White has handled a range of complex litigation, investigations and enforcement matters, including representing clients in congressional investigations. Building on his background as a West Point graduate and Army veteran, White’s experience in litigation, investigations and strategic counseling is particularly deep with respect to defense industry clients and other businesses operating in the federal sector, including emerging companies for which he provides support for continued growth.

One of White’s principal practice areas involves conducting internal investigations and providing counseling on matters pertaining to diversity, equity and inclusion. He has helped several companies develop diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.

In 2020, White and McGuireWoods Chairman Jonathan Harmon were among five civilian members who served on an independent review panel that investigated the command climate and culture at Fort Hood, as they related to sexual assault, harassment and crime. After releasing their report, White, Harmon and their fellow panel members testified before the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Military Personnel.

“Jack is another tremendous addition to our expanding government investigations team, adding even more depth of experience for our clients in the defense and technology sectors,” said Todd Steggerda, chair of the firm’s Government Investigations & White Collar Litigation Department. “As a former Supreme Court clerk and West Point graduate, Jack brings a unique skill set to a range of litigation and investigation matters that our clients confront.”

“Jack is an exceptional lawyer who is highly respected in the business community,” said Gregory Riegle, managing partner of the firm’s Tysons office. “His ability to help companies navigate legal and regulatory challenges will be a tremendous asset for clients in the D.C. region and throughout the country.”

Dion Hayes, McGuireWoods’ deputy managing partner for litigation, added: “Jack is a dynamic leader and creative problem-solver. His practical, results-focused approach to client service and his passion for serving the community fit perfectly within our culture. We are delighted to welcome him to the McGuireWoods family.”

White has served on the executive committee of the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce and currently sits on the board of directors of the Virginia Chamber of Commerce. He also chairs the governing board of The Tower Club Tysons Corner, a social and business community that includes some of largest and fastest-growing companies in the Washington, D.C., region.

With more than 75 attorneys — including former federal prosecutors and enforcement officials, former U.S. attorneys and a deputy attorney general of the United States — McGuireWoods’ Government Investigations & White Collar Litigation Department has represented Fortune 100 companies and individuals in some of the most prominent and complicated criminal, regulatory and investigative matters of the past decade.

“McGuireWoods is a litigation powerhouse with world-class lawyers who understand how to help clients achieve their business goals,” White said. “I look forward to putting my experience and relationships to work for the benefit of our clients, particularly growing companies in the defense, technology and federal contracting sectors.”

McGuireWoods ranks among the world’s leading investigations firms in the GIR 100, a guide to top cross-border investigations practices based on independent research by Global Investigations Review. The firm’s government investigations team, a Chambers-ranked practice group, has been named twice by Law360 as a White Collar Practice Group of the Year.
