Lawdragon Names Five McGuireWoods Partners Leading Bankruptcy and Restructuring Lawyers

McGuireWoods partners Douglas Foley, Mark Freedlander, Dion Hayes, Demetra Liggins and Scott Vaughn are recognized as Lawdragon 500 Leading U.S. Bankruptcy & Restructuring Lawyers for 2022.  

Foley represents creditors and debtors in business Chapter 11 proceedings. He is certified in business bankruptcy law by the American Board of Certification Standards Committee, an affiliate of the American Bankruptcy Institute. Foley is a frequent author and presenter on bankruptcy topics.

Freedlander has more than 25 years of experience providing creative, business-oriented solutions in matters involving financial distress. Hayes is McGuireWoods’ deputy managing partner for litigation. He focuses on insolvency-related litigation, chapter 11 reorganizations, and distressed asset acquisitions and recapitalizations.  Hayes has led restructuring engagements across industries, including energy, coal and metals mining, semiconductor manufacturing, print media, healthcare and hospitality.

Liggins helps clients purchase and sell assets in distressed situations, secure financing, and negotiate, structure and implement cash collateral orders and debtor-in-possession financing agreements. She represents healthcare systems, financial institutions, private equity funds, and oil and gas companies. She is a frequent speaker on bankruptcy and finance-related topics.

Vaughn, chair of the firm’s Restructuring & Insolvency Department, represents financial institutions in corporate restructuring, refinancing and all phases of bankruptcy proceedings. He has lectured on bankruptcy law and creditors rights issues for the North Carolina Bar Association, the Mecklenburg County Bar, and numerous banking and finance trade groups.
