McGuireWoods’ Tanya Greene Honored Among Daily Journal’s Top 100 Lawyers

September 21, 2022

The Daily Journal named McGuireWoods Los Angeles partner Tanya Greene to its list of Top 100 Lawyers for 2022, which honors accomplished attorneys in California for successes over the past year.

Greene is a respected litigator, an innovative diversity and pro bono champion, and an influential mentor. She works on high-profile, complex litigation for some of the world’s most prominent corporations. She manages consumer class actions and multiplaintiff litigation in heavily regulated industries.

Greene’s notable successes over the past year include leading teams that represented Vans Inc. in high-profile lawsuits alleging trademark infringement of the company’s iconic sneaker designs. In a closely watched California case, a federal judge granted a preliminary injunction requiring Walmart to halt sales of private label shoes that mimicked Vans’ designs and remove millions of infringing shoes from store shelves.

Greene also led a pro bono team serving as co-counsel in a multiplaintiff suit challenging practices by the city of Los Angeles related to the confiscation and disposal of unhoused people’s belongings. In September 2021, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed a trial ruling granting a preliminary injunction ordering the city to stop enforcing an ordinance provision that allowed the city to seize and destroy certain belongings without giving adequate notice to the items’ owners.

“I am humbled by this recognition and proud to share this honor with such accomplished lawyers,” Greene said. “I am also grateful to my clients and my McGuireWoods colleagues for their encouragement and support.”

Greene is the former pro bono coordinator for McGuireWoods’ Century City and downtown Los Angeles offices and is a member of the firm’s national recruiting committee. Throughout her career, she has mentored numerous law students and junior associates. She also works with associates as part of the Associate Advancement Academy for Excellence, the National Bar Association’s mentoring program.

Among her many honors, Greene was selected for the Los Angeles Business Journal’s 2022 “Leaders of Influence: Minority Attorneys” list. In 2021, she was honored as one of the Daily Journal’s “Top Women Lawyers.”

“Tanya inspires us all with her dedication to clients, her pro bono leadership and her passion for mentoring the next generation of lawyers,” said Hamid Namazie, managing partner of McGuireWoods’ downtown Los Angeles office. “We congratulate her on this well-deserved recognition.”
