McGuireWoods’ Jah Akande Named to BEQ Pride LGBTQ+ Leaders Under 40 List

January 13, 2023

McGuireWoods associate Jah Akande has been named to the Business Equality Network’s 2023 BEQ Pride LGBTQ+ Leaders Under 40 list. Published on Jan. 12, the list honors young leaders in the LGBTQ+ community nationally who have demonstrated exceptional leadership capabilities and made major contributions in government, corporate, academia, nonprofit or small business.

Akande, a member of the firm’s nationally recognized Government Investigations & White Collar Litigation Department, represents clients in regulatory enforcement actions, government investigations, white collar criminal defense matters and internal investigations. While at the firm, Akande has played an integral role advancing healthcare equity for transgender Virginians, represented marginalized groups in contract disputes and counselled undocumented persons seeking lawful immigration status. Akande also has served as the firm’s Triage Project co-champion for Richmond’s Eviction Diversion Program, an innovative pro bono effort working to combat the crisis of evictions in the city.

“It’s an honor to be recognized as an LGBTQ+ leader by Business Equality Network and I am thankful to work at a firm that embraces diversity, inclusion and the importance of community,” Akande said.

London partner William Boddy, chair of the firm’s LGBTQ+ Lawyers Network, noted, “Jah continuously strives to make a difference in the community and McGuireWoods could not be more proud that he is being lauded for those efforts.”
