The Los Angeles Business Journal named McGuireWoods partner Kevin Lally to its list of Top 100 Lawyers for 2023. The annual honor recognizes lawyers in the Los Angeles region for exceptional achievements and exemplary leadership.
Lally, a former federal prosecutor, is a partner in McGuireWoods’ nationally recognized Government Investigations & White Collar Litigation Department. Based in the firm’s downtown Los Angeles office, he works on large-scale federal criminal investigations, enforcement proceedings, internal investigations and complex civil litigation for clients across industries.
Immediately after joining the firm in 2019, Lally won dismissal of a case alleging civil rights, wiretapping and stored communications act violations for a national financial institution in just 30 days. His complex litigation work includes serving as lead plaintiff’s counsel in a civil RICO case stemming from a half-billion dollar alternative fuel tax credit scheme in which illicit proceeds were used to acquire a foreign airline, and representing the principal defendant in the largest healthcare fraud case ever brought in the Central District of California.
During his nearly two decades as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California, Lally served as senior litigation counsel in the Major Frauds Section and led the office’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force Section. He prevailed in the high-profile racketeering prosecution of celebrity private investigator Anthony Pellicano and in related appeals before the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. Lally is featured in “Sin Eater: The Crimes of Anthony Pellicano,” a newly released FX documentary from “ The New York Times Presents” series.

Among his many honors, Lally received a California Lawyer of the Year award from California Lawyer magazine and The National Law Journal named him a Criminal Law Trailblazer.
Honorees were feted at a May 18, 2023, awards ceremony and showcased in the May 22, 2023, edition of the Los Angeles Business Journal.
