Virginia is counsel in the firm’s Government Investigations and White Collar Litigation group. Prior to joining McGuireWoods, Virginia spent nearly seven years as an Assistant United States Attorney with the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa where she focused on prosecuting white collar crime and human trafficking.
During her time as an AUSA, Virginia successfully argued three cases in front of the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals, wrote several appellate briefs, and conducted nine jury trials. Virginia investigated and prosecuted a broad assortment of cases, including federal tax crimes, government program fraud, child exploitation offenses, sex trafficking, labor trafficking, national security offenses, and violent crime.
Before she joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Virginia served as a law clerk to the Honorable Peter J. Messitte of the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland. Additionally, Virginia previously worked for two years as an associate for another top Washington, D.C. firm. Prior to becoming an attorney, Virginia spent two years working on counterterrorism matters for the United States federal government.
Virginia graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law in which she was on the Editorial Board for the Virginia Law Review.
Defended a multinational technology company in ITC and parallel federal court litigation concerning patent, contractual and equitable claims.
Represented a leading financial institution in connection with a federal fraud investigation.
Represented a U.S. agricultural equipment manufacturer in an investigation by the SEC.
Represented a company in an investigation by the FTC into allegedly deceptive advertising claims, resulting in a consent decree containing novel clinical study criteria.
