Daniel M. Chung Associate

Dan is a mid-level tax associate in the Washington, D.C. office, and his practice focuses on transactional tax matters and tax policy matters. Dan has significant experience advising on corporate and partnership tax planning and on tax aspects of complex business transactions, including business acquisitions, capital restructurings, and debt and equity offerings. He provides transactional tax advice to clients in a wide range of industries, including health care, and private equity.

Dan also works closely with McGuireWoods Consulting on representing clients before the Department of Treasury and Congress on significant tax policy matters. With a strong understanding of the regulatory and legislative processes that shape federal tax policy, Dan assists clients to analyze the impact of tax law developments and to navigate through the remaining issues. He has substantial experience drafting comment letters to the Department of Treasury and the IRS national office on behalf of clients in a number of industries, including energy and financial services.

Represented a national gas and electric utility company before the Department of Treasury regarding regulatory guidance on energy tax incentives

Represented a multinational life insurance company in connection with newly enacted international tax provisions on base erosion

Represented a national syndicator of federal and state historic rehabilitation tax credits

Submitted comment letters to the Organization of Economic Co-operation Development (OECD) regarding tax treaty benefits on behalf of an asset management trade association 

Represented one of the nation’s largest farmer owned cooperatives on advocating for legislative proposals to extend certain excise tax credits

Represented a regional electric utility company to analyze the tax characterization of certain securities

Represented a Fortune 100 energy company to design a legislative proposal allowing certain energy tax incentives
