Lowndes Christopher Quinlan Counsel

Lowndes focuses his practice on the recovery of insurance assets for policyholders in complex insurance coverage disputes with insurers. He has extensive experience counseling clients on maximizing their recoveries for claims, and when necessary, litigating against insurers to compel payment of benefits improperly withheld. Lowndes has broad experience litigating cyber-insurance claims as well as counseling clients about the respective merits of differing cyber coverages. His practice also involves insurance for financial products, directors and officers liability, employment practices liability, and commercial general liability. He has also handled numerous disputes under ocean marine and commercial property policies arising from catastrophic losses.

He has experience handling insurance claims for a wide variety of industries, including energy, financial services, transportation, automotive, medical devices, education, manufacturing and construction. 

Lowndes’ practice also includes representing financial institutions and energy companies in complex commercial litigation and government enforcement proceedings.


Litigated to a successful conclusion a business email compromise (email-spoofing) claim under a crime policy for a technology company.

Counseled clients about the respective merits and pitfalls of differing cyber coverages.  

Recovered substantial defense costs incurred by a medical manufacturer in an intellectual property case under a commercial liability policy.

Represented automaker in a claim against ocean marine insurers involving a multimillion overseas loss of vehicles.  

Represented a regional energy company in a $1 billion claim against its carrier for failure to repair a damaged power plant.

Counsel to non-profit relief agency in dispute with insurers over coverage for a claim by a former employee.

Lowndes has also advised clients concerning claims involving products liability, contractor liability, mold and pollution. These cases have often raised complicated trigger of coverage questions and coverage under multiple policy years.
