Kat’s practice focuses on representing utility clients in regulatory proceedings before public service commissions. She advises clients on implementing business strategies in line with state and federal requirements.
Kat earned her JD from Duke University School of Law, graduating in the top five percent of her class. She received dean’s awards for the highest grade in both Civil Procedure and Trusts and Estates. While in law school, Kat worked as a research assistant in tax law for Professor Richard Schmalbeck and a teaching assistant for the first-year legal writing program. She also served as senior research editor of Duke Law Journal and vice president of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance pro bono project.
Prior to law school, Kat taught English language arts in public schools at the middle-school and high-school levels. She brings her experience structuring complex curricula and managing multiple stakeholder perspectives to help clients navigate government standards and achieve their goals.
