Emily counsels clients in a broad range of intellectual property, marketing, data privacy and data security matters across a variety of industries.
She advises clients on intellectual property portfolio management, including trademark clearance, prosecution, maintenance, licensing and enforcement. Emily works closely with corporate teams on the intellectual property aspects of transactions and transactional matters, including due diligence in mergers and acquisitions and corporate financing.
She also advises clients on advertising and marketing matters, including sweepstakes, contests and promotions, endorsements, disclaimers, claim substantiation and advertisement review and clearance.
Before joining McGuireWoods, Emily served as a law clerk for a Virginia law firm. She also clerked for the general counsel to an American automobile manufacturer in Michigan, where she addressed legal matters involving patents, employment law, advertising, non-bank financial institutions, and unfair and deceptive trade practices. Emily earned her juris doctor and her master of business administration degree simultaneously from Michigan State University. There, she served as executive editor of the Michigan State Law Review, as well as vice president of the Women’s Law Caucus, and she earned the Jurisprudence Achievement Award for research, writing and advocacy.
