Keola Robert Whittaker Associate

Keola has more than 10 years of experience representing financial institutions and Fortune 500 corporations in complex cases across the country. Most recently, he represented a global telecommunications company in contract and real estate disputes and an international mining giant in environmental litigation.

His experience also includes representing a number of financial institutions in litigation relating to mergers resulting from the 2008 financial crisis.

Keola offers clients the benefit of his extensive oral advocacy experience. Prior to law school, Keola was a college speech and debate coach at Whitman College and Reed College. In law school, he was ranked the top speaker in the United States and the third best speaker in the world in the Jessup International Moot Court Competition and was hired by the Wharton School to assist students with their oral advocacy and presentation skills. As a lawyer, Keola has argued countless motions and has taken cases to trial in state and federal courts.

The American Bar Association Business Law Section awarded Keola the Business Law Fellowship, and he serves on the section’s Business and Corporate Litigation Committee.

Keola has volunteered for The Trevor Project, Equality California, Lambda Legal and Immigration Equality and he serves on the board of OutRight Action International. 

Originally from Hawaii, Keola’s name means “the life” in Hawaiian.

Experience

Represented a private equity firm in a trial in the Delaware Court of Chancery relating to a failed corporate merger.

Successfully defended a snack food company in a trademark and trade dress dispute with its largest competitor.

Provided pre-litigation advice to a large entertainment studio in several trademark and copyright matters.

Defended several large financial institutions in federal securities lawsuits and government investigations relating to the financial crisis of 2008.

Represented an internet media company in a fraud and breach of contract action relating to the sale of one of its subsidiary companies.
