Justin specializes in creative solutions to clients’ problems, with a particular emphasis on data privacy. He is one of the firm’s thought leaders on California privacy law, and a go-to advisor on the California Consumer Privacy Act and the California Privacy Rights Act.
Justin holds the CIPP/US credential as a Certified Information Privacy Professional from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP). He also serves on the Executive Committee of the Privacy and Cybersecurity Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, and is a frequent contributor to the McGuireWoods data privacy blog, Password Protected.
In addition to his data privacy work, Justin maintains a robust litigation practice, advocating for clients in state and federal court. He has successfully argued dozens of motions, and taken and defended dozens of depositions in cases spanning a broad array of subject areas.
When Justin is not in the courtroom or counseling clients, you will find him surfing, building furniture, or mentoring first-generation college students through the Los Angeles chapter of America Needs You.
Assisted more than 40 companies spanning multiple industries with implementing CCPA-compliant policies and practices that fit their products, customers, and unique corporate identities.
Regularly counsels clients on vendor management, data mapping, data subject access requests, and leveraging existing resources to achieve privacy compliance.
Routinely negotiates and drafts privacy and data security terms for agreements relating to marketing, cloud hosting, order fulfillment, joint ventures, and other relationships involving the transfer or sharing of personal information.
Assists clients with data breach response, resolution, and remediation.
Extensive litigation and courtroom experience through all procedural phases in state and federal courts in California, North Carolina, and other jurisdictions. Justin’s experience also includes several successful appeals.
Secondment at an international manufacturer of water, gas, and electric “smart metering” products. Negotiated agreements concerning product sales, intellectual property, and Federal Communications Commission radio spectrum.
