Jacksonville Office Teams With Citi on Advance Directives for Low-Income Seniors

In fall 2015, McGuireWoods partnered with in-house attorneys and paralegals from Citi to draft advance directives for low-income seniors in Jacksonville, Fla. Citi had approached McGuireWoods earlier in the year to develop pro bono partnerships with the firm’s Jacksonville office — an excellent opportunity to serve the community and develop deeper relationships with Citi, a McGuireWoods client.

Associate Beth Rothenberg spearheaded the Jacksonville office’s effort with Citi paralegal Erika Posada-Diaz, working with Jacksonville Area Legal Aid to sponsor one of its advance directives events for seniors. The pro bono partnership kicked off with a well-attended CLE luncheon regarding advance directives at Citi’s Jacksonville campus.

Several weeks later, McGuireWoods and Citi held an advance directives event at a local medical clinic, meeting with nearly a dozen low-income senior clients to answer questions and draft durable powers of attorney, living wills, designation of pre-need guardians and designation of healthcare surrogates.

The effort was a tremendous success, with low-income seniors receiving valuable legal service and peace of mind. Pleased with the experience and its positive impact on the lives of seniors in the community, Citi and McGuireWoods are eager to continue their cooperative efforts on future pro bono events and referrals.
