David focuses his practice on land use and real estate issues in Northern Virginia. His practice includes representing national, regional and local companies and developers in all areas of land use, including the development of large-scale, mixed-use communities and traditional residential, office, retail and hotel projects.

He advises clients at all stages of the land planning and development process, including zoning approvals, special-use permits, and comprehensive plan amendments, as well as identifying potential state and federal concerns, including the application of Virginia's public-private partnership laws. He also advocates for his clients in presentations to concerned community organizations, the local media, and in working with various local governments. Prior to joining McGuireWoods, David served as an urban planner for the Portland International Airport in Portland, Oregon.
