McGuireWoods Advises WJ Partners in Selling Interest in Mobile Communications America

April 3, 2019

A McGuireWoods team represented private investment firm WJ Partners in selling its interest in Mobile Communications America (MCA) to Sentinel Capital Partners. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

McGuireWoods also advised WJ Partners in its 2013 purchase of MCA. Since then, MCA has completed 16 acquisitions and grown from 75 employees to a top provider of communications services for mission-critical, commercial and industrial markets, employing more than 500 people in seven states.

Partners Brad Austin and Chris Scheurer led the McGuireWoods deal team representing WJ Partners. Associates Sarah Bosse Martin, Clare Lewis, Matthew Cox, Samuel Neece, Allison Tanner and Daniel Yates assisted in the transaction.

Based in Spartanburg, South Carolina, WJ Partners focuses on growing lower middle-market companies in the consumer, specialty finance, and industrial and business services sectors. McGuireWoods has advised WJ Partners in several recent transactions, including investments in a growing chain of franchised breakfast and lunch restaurants and a franchisor of barre fitness studios.

“We were proud to represent WJ Partners several years ago in its initial investment in MCA and now in its successful sale of its MCA interest to Sentinel Capital Partners,” Austin said. “We look forward to working with WJ Partners as it continues building strong companies.”

McGuireWoods ranked among the top 10 law firms for middle-market private equity deals in Bloomberg’s 2018 league tables. Mergers & Acquisitions magazine named McGuireWoods “Law Firm of the Year” in its Mid-Market M&A Awards, honoring the firm for the growth of its deal work and for innovative, client-focused private equity initiatives.
