Jim’s practice focuses on the area of public finance transactions. He serves as bond counsel, underwriter’s counsel, borrowers counsel, lender’s counsel or issuer’s counsel for government bond issues, including general obligation and revenue financings, for multifamily housing projects, charter schools and public and private universities.
While in law school, Jim worked as a Legal Casework Intern at the Jerome N. Frank Legal Services Organization at Yale Law School. Jim was also a member of the Wake Forest Law Review. He earned the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in both Legal Writing & Research and Litigation Drafting.
Experience
- Acted as bond counsel for public finance issues including public and private universities, charter schools, housing authorities, cities, counties, and transportation authorities.
- Acted as bond counsel to local authorities in connection with multifamily housing revenue bonds (often combined with 4% tax credits) and other local issuers in North Carolina.
- Acted as bond counsel and underwriter’s counsel for privately placed loans to cities, counties, school districts and other public entities.
