When an employer is cited by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the monetary penalty may not look steep. But there are other costs, such as reputational damage, lost business opportunities or the threat of a future OSHA citation.

Join McGuireWoods’ OSHA defense partner Courtney Malveaux — a former Labor Commissioner who signed and enforced citations for OSHA — for an interactive session that breaks down the hidden costs of OSHA cases and how to mitigate the damage.

In this program, we will walk through an actual OSHA citation and challenge audience members to identify six negotiable areas that can determine the business impact of an inspection. For each category, we will discuss why it matters, how it can multiply risk and expense, and where employers have room to maneuver. Expect practical strategies informed by real-world stories of citations gone wrong — and how to avoid them.

Participants will leave with a clear framework for evaluating citations and building leverage, including how to address citation characterization and classification, penalty calculations and grouping, abatement terms and verification, multi-site and corporate-wide implications, instance-by-instance exposure, settlement structures, follow-up and repeat risk, and reputational considerations.

This session is designed for in-house counsel, safety and EHS leaders, HR professionals, and operational executives who want to sharpen their response playbook and develop strategies to mitigate risk. Come ready to engage — you will test your instincts and leave with practical takeaways for your next OSHA matter.

Login details will be sent upon registration.
