Join McGuireWoods for the annual Richmond ethics program. This interactive program uses limericks (the last word of which the audience will have to guess) to explore ethics issues involving lawyers’ conflicts of interest rules.
The program will address:
- Identifying the client (in the corporate and insurance contexts)
- Basic conflicts principles (including duties to prospective clients, “thrust upon” conflicts and adversity to former clients)
- Types of adversity (including business, financial and “material limitation” conflicts)
- Conflicts between clients and lawyers (including gifts from clients, settlement practice restrictions, representing unpopular clients, lawyers’ settlement of clients’ claims against them and prospective consents)
CLE application will be made for the state of Illinois. Applications to support other jurisdictions will be made for McGuireWoods attorneys and current McGuireWoods clients. A certificate of attendance will be distributed to program attendees.
