McGuireWoods Raleigh partner Colon Willoughby is the new vice president of the North Carolina State Bar.
Willoughby, who is a partner in the firm’s Government Investigations & White Collar Litigation Department, was sworn in by North Carolina Supreme Court Chief Justice Mark Martin on Oct. 26 at the state bar’s annual dinner. Willoughby and his fellow officers were profiled in the winter edition of The North Carolina State Bar Journal.
Willoughby joined McGuireWoods in 2014 after serving as Wake County’s district attorney for 27 years. He was a member of the North Carolina State Bar Council from 1998 to 2006 and was elected to the governing body in 2014. During his tenure as a councillor, Willoughby chaired the Authorized Practice Committee and held the vice chairman’s post on the Grievance Committee.
He previously served as president of the Wake County Academy of Trial Lawyers, director of the Wake County Bar Association, president of North Carolina Conference of District Attorneys, and a member of the National District Attorney’s Association Board of Directors.
