Jon Finger Talks to The Texas Lawbook About Strong M&A Market in 2022

July 27, 2022

The market for mergers and acquisitions remained strong in the first half of 2022 after a very active market in 2021, McGuireWoods Dallas partner Jon Finger told The Texas Lawbook in a July 25, 2022, story.

The Texas Lawbook’s Corporate Deal Tracker found that although the total dollar value of deals made during the first half of 2022 was down from 2021, the volume of M&A dealmaking by Texas lawyers reached new highs, narrowly eclipsing record-high deal counts for the first and the second half of 2021.

The publication spoke to busy deal lawyers to get their thoughts on the first half of 2022 and forecast what the second half may bring. Finger — co-leader of McGuireWoods’ private equity industry team and the firm’s national independent sponsor program — said that 2021 was a remarkable and unprecedented year that “set a ridiculously high bar.” However, the first half of 2022 “continued to present a very strong M&A environment” as buyers looked to deploy unused capital in private equity funds, sellers continued to seek opportunities to bring companies to market in a favorable environment, and strategic buyers found opportunities to grow.

McGuireWoods’ 2022 Independent Sponsor Conference will be held Oct. 25-26 in Dallas.
